Hi there! Thanks for stopping by. My name is Talia and I am an OBGYN living and working on the East Coast. Like many of you, I have ( for years) had many personal goals and aspirations that have not come to fruition. Sometimes it was due to personal circumstances, excuses, and ( most commonly) my anxiety. My personal dreams have always come second to my career. One of my dreams is to travel — FREQUENTLY. While I have traveled in the US for conferences and while visiting friends, there are many places that I have yet to explore within the US and abroad.
One of the reasons why I haven’t traveled more, to be honest, is because I have been waiting for a travel buddy. A Guy, to be more specific, to travel with. Due to my own anxiety, and social judgments regarding traveling while alone, black, and female, I put off travel thinking that I would finally have the chance when Mr. Right walked in.
Like many others, I thought you were supposed to go to college, then graduate school, find Mr. Right, settle down, buy a house, and have 2.5 kids. I thought your life was supposed to start after finding Mr. Right.
After many years of training to become a physician, I realized that I was 33, single, starting my first real job, financially independent, and still waiting. Waiting to start my life. So I said, screw it. I am going to live now. I have decided to travel now. Single or coupled. Either way, I deserve to see the world.
So, welcome to my journey. It will be filled with adventure, mishaps, hikes/runs, and nature. As an OBGYN, I tend to be interested in global women’s health and advocate for women’s reproductive rights, so I am sure as I travel the world, I will also be sharing women’s stories and highlighting those perspectives as well.
